 2018 Preview 


       South Choctaw Academy completed the 2017 season with a 8-3 record. With their 4-1 region record and a second place finish in Class A region two, the Rebels earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. South Choctaw Academy's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Abbeville Christian by a score of 18-16.

       Since 2010, South Choctaw Academy has gone a combined 46-47. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class AA over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, South Choctaw Academy has managed to compile a record of 137-130. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class AA and 22nd in the AISA.




       The Rebels are led by head coach Charlie Taylor who is entering his twelveth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 84-46 over the past eleven seasons at South Choctaw Academy. Under his direction the Rebels have qualified for the playoffs a total of ten times. They have won three region crowns with Coach Taylor. Coach Taylor led South Choctaw Academy to a state championship in 2007.

       Coach Taylor's overall record as a head football coach in fifteen season stands at 98-73 (57.3%). Over the course of his career, Coach Taylor's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of ten times and won three region championships.

       If South Choctaw Academy can win two games this season, Coach Taylor will reach the 100 win milestone.

       The South Choctaw Academy Rebels will play in Class AA region two during the 2018 season. The Rebels move up in classification to Class AA. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

       The Rebels should be in contention for a playoff spot in region two this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2011 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2018.

       The Rebels open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Monroe Academy on Friday, August 24 at Jackson Memorial Stadium. Last year the Monroe Academy Volunteers finished with an overall record of 13-0 and in first place in Class AAA region two. The Volunteers won the Class AAA State Championship last season when they defeated Bessemer Academy by a score of 34-14 in Troy.

       South Choctaw Academy and Monroe Academy have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Rebels have a 1-6-0 record against the Volunteers. They last met in 1981 with Monroe Academy winning by a score of 34-3.

       South Choctaw Academy returns AISA All-State  defensive back Mason Sikes. He was named to the first team last season.
